Hi this is Catherine's dad, Steve.  I have just spent a week on the road with Catherine and we've had a ball!
Last Thursday I flew to Melbourne (thanks people at work for the time off!) to join Cate for the filming of Rockwiz.  Being an avid fan of the show and knowing that the other guest was one of my musical heroes Max Merritt, how could I not go??  The show is filmed at The Espy in St Kilda - a fantastic old funky venue right on the water.  Cate had already done one rehearsal the day before so we started with second rehearsal on the afternoon of the taping. Unfortunately for me Max wasn't at that rehearsal and one of the musos did his vocals on the duet.  When we returned that night Catherine surprised me by saying that she had got me a wildcard to try out to become a contestant - 24 people compete to be the final 8 contestants (2 shows are fimed at a time).  So now I was excited and very nervous.  We met up with some family members Simon and Ebony who were also big fans of the show for the taping.  While Catherine relaxed upstairs I went through a selection competition with the other 24 contestants, and was glad to hear when the final 8 were named that I was going to be on the show as well!! Not only that but I ended up on the same show as Catherine on the opposite team - so the contest was on!  Talking to the other contestants backstage (actually a garage) I discovered that one, Mark, was a savant - similar to Rain Man.  Given any date from 1979 on he could tell you the whole Top 40 - songs, artists, positions - the lot!!! Mark had flown from Sydney to be on the show as one of his life's ambitions.  Mark also only had 20% vision so the whole effort was amazing.  He was accompanied by his teacher who was making a documentary about Mark including the trip.  I wasn't very happy though when I found out that he was on Catherine's team!  I was very happy to have my teammate Libby to go into battle though.  Hi Libby! 
I'm not going to tell you details of the show because you can watch it yourself on SBS 9:30pm on Saturday 27th September.  But just let me just say that: watching Max sing Western Union Man from a couple of metres away; sitting next to Max and competing with him; the response from the crowd when they were told I was Cate's father (a first for Rockwiz!); the whole fun of the show; watching Cate and Max singing Slipping Away at the end,  were all wonderful!  The hosts of the show Julia and Brian were fantastic and I can let you in on a secret - I can't tell you which one but either Cate or I won!  The final score was very close so make sure you watch.
After the show we went to another pub to wind down as did all of the participants so I got to spend some time talking to Max who was heading back to LA the next day. Max was in Australia to be inducted into the ARIA Rock Hall of Fame and do Rockwiz so it was a fleeting visit.  He looked very fit and healthy for someone who was critically ill last year.  Joining us also was an old aquantaince and special guest on the second show Leo Sayer.  Leo has always been a great supporter and fan of Catherine's - he came to her show at The Basement a while ago.  So I guess it was a late, great night.  Unfortunately we had a 6am flight the next morning - but that's showbiz!

This week was a visit to the other great Australian city - Sydney to record the video for Catherine's new single.  As you can read on the front page Cate's new single Lucky Girl will be released to radio next week.  Expect the video to be aired from the beginning of August.  The video was made by Plump Films and to my mind will be her best so far.  Thanks to the work of Director Gary, make-up Emma, other actor Cameron and all the support crew, this video looks fantastic!  A couple of points of interest: the video was recorded in the Marble Bar at The Hilton the scene of Catherine's first video Hillbilly Pickin' Ramblin' Girl;  Catherine's band members include Telstra Road To Tamworth Songwriting winner this year Mark Wells on drums - other band members are Peter Cooper and Ben Park;  the video is basically a performance video with Catherine and band performing the song with a small storyline added which is where Cameron comes in. Look out for this one soon! I know you'll all love it!

Yesterday was the less glamorous side of a singer's life - but probably the most important - the business meetings with agents etc.  By luchtime Cate had come down with the latest bug and was not travelling well so we returned to Newcastle.
Sooo... a little insight into a week in the life of Catherine albeit a pretty exciting one!

hey guys!!

things have been pretty crazy the last few weeks! i've pretty much just been on the road on-stop and loving it of corse! i did 5 shows in a row through the Melbourne area and it was fantastic! every show was great! we played in theaters and then i did a "Catherine Britt" show at the studio in Geelong which was a lot of fun!

I'm in Melbourne again now recording "Rock Wiz" which is a fantastic game show on SBS. so i am really looking forward to filming it tonight! I'm getting to do it with a rock legend who i can't mention right now. but it's going to be great! so look out for it on SBS in mid to late October!

then i am flying out tomorrow morning to Brisbane for two shows with Adam Harvey. which is ALWAYS fun! 

i think a lot of fans will be happy to know that i did find a place in Newcastle to live! and it's great! very cosy and cool. it feels like home already and i've only spent like 2 nights there! he he.

i am shooting my new music video next week in Sydney for the new single! which will be out very soon. so keep an eye out for a new video and song at Australian radio!

i am also going to University this month. i enrolled into a program called Open Foundation. i am studying Australian History and Literature and Film. and i can't wait! the main reason i am doing it is because i feel like i seriously use my brain to about 2% of what i could every day. i've always been really smart and because i left school so young to go on the road i missed out on so much stuff! and feel like i have so much to learn! so I'm going back to school. ha ha. 

so i guess thats about it lately. lots going on as always. and i love it!

I have still been on my mission to find a place to live the last few days. i have gotten a bunch of comments and emails from fans trying to help me. so thank you! he he. it's very sweet. but i am still on the trail. i found three amazing ones today that i love and i am going to apply for on Monday. so excited! so cross your fingers for me!

i am singing at the Knights game again tomorrow as part of Red cross's 125 year anniversary. I'm very excited about it because Red cross is a great charity and I'm stoked to be a part of it and be involved. I will be singing a brand new song called "Saved me". i wanna try it out and it's a very uplifting and feel good song. very appropriate for the occasion.

I've been doing a lot of Opp shopping lately and loving it! gosh i like random clothing. one of a kind items and vintage things. it's a lot of fun for me. and. It's cheap! ha ha!

I'm writing with Melanie Horsnell again on Monday. i cant wait. she truly is amazing. check out her stuff.

and I'm on the road again next week. going to Melbourne to play 5 shows in a row. check out the websites for tour dates if you live near or in Melbourne and come along to the show! it's going to be great! the really fun one will be a show i'm doing at The Studio in Geelong. it's a lttle more of an acoustic show and it will be intimate and i've always wanted to play in Geelong. i seem to get the most fan mail from there. so Geelong. here i come!

first off....i have incredible news!!!! some really big star in Nashville just cut one of my songs on their new record!!!!! i am so happy....because i love singing but my other passion is songwriting and this means alot to me as a songwriter!!!! i can't say much more about it until it comes out cos something could go wrong and it may not make the record....you know they always say 'don't get your hopes up till it's pressed and on the shelfs!!".....so until them i wont say who....but just enjoy my excitement with me!!!! he he.....

anyways.....OMG its been a long time since I've blogged!!!! i am so sorry...there has been some pretty intense stuff going on lately...

i am looking for a place in Newcastle to move out for 6 months or so....it's very exciting but pretty much the hardest thing I've ever had to do!!!! man it's hard to get a place in Australia!!!! there's a total shortage of rental property's and well lets face it.....i am a musician....self-employed....not exactly their first choice....he he...but yeah...I've been looking non-stop and going to inspcetions and applying and i didn't even realise how much of my time it would actually take up....

I've been doing non-stop interviews for touring and the album and the single...that seems to be a very regular thing....

I've been writing a fair bit....I've been writing with Melanie Horsnell, Jake Grigg, Morgan Evans, Holly Throsby and lots more....its been amazing....there is so much talent here....and i feel like my album will probably reflect all of this diverse co-writing i have been doing....

i went to the APRA awards on monday night in Sydney and it was awesome!!!! one of the best awards nights i have ever been too!!! with incredible food, artists and performances....it was cool....a few of my favorite performances were Ian moss, Kate Miller-Heike, The Audreys, Richard Clapton and so on....they were ALL great!!!

i also played at Hexham bowling club on Saturday night in my home town and it was just awesome!!!! my neice got up and sang and it was just awesome!!! all my family and friends came and sat down the front and it felt like singing in a lounge room.....very very special....

boy i've been busy.....anyways.....

so last night i went to the movies to see "SEX AND THE CITY"!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it was so awesome!!! i'm so sorry for being so girlie right now but it was the BEST chick flick i have ever seen in my life!!!! i laughed, i cried, i had to pee half way through (dang it!! ha ha), i cringed & i fell in love all over again with Carrie Bradshaw and her 3 best friends Miranda, Charlotte & samantha....

I'm not going to talk anymore about it cos i don't wanna give anything away...but if you ever listen to anything i ever say GO AND SEE IT NOW!!!!!!! it truly was amazing!!! and made me feel so good inside....

anyways....i have been working on my new single's film clip...trying to figure out what i wanna do next... something different, something outside of the box, something credible....I'm thinking....Alot..... 

i got hypnotised again on Tuesday by a friend of mine....it was for focus and drive and fitness....people swear by it...i dunno yet....it definitely has made me feel a little different...so we'll see....i do enjoy the process... it's very relaxing and feels very spiritual....i like it...

and I've been writing and plotting and planning the future of my career too all week....he he.....me......always plotting and planning....it sounds evil.....hhhhmmmm.....maybe i'm planning to take over the world....ha ha ha!!!! (evil laugh)....oh wait....yeah....I am planning on taking over the world....just in a different way....he he

yo yo!!!

well....i played at the newcastle rodeo last night and it was awesome!!!! we had such a good time!!! ive never seen bull riding and ill tell ya what...i wouldnt be jumping up on anything that weight 1 and a half tons and trying to stay on it!!! for ANY money!!! crazyness!!! it really was quite a rush to see and then we played out in the arena right where they were riding and it kinda freaked me out knowing they had just been there....i tell ya! i was scared!!! he he....so anyways, hope everybody enjoyed their selfs!!! and thanks for coming along!!! and thanks for the peeps who stayed and watched me!!

also, it was my middle brothers 30th birthday last night too!! so we went to his party afterwards and had a good time hanging and jamming on heavy metal music (thats what my brothers band plays)...it was alot of fun!!! very loud....he he....but fun....

i have a new band member too!! his name is peter cooper and he plays guitar!!!! he played for the first time with me last night and he rocked it!!! im so excited to have him on board!!! he's lovley and single girlies!!! he he..... so im sure you will all see him at the future shows!!!

i had coffee in sydney the other day with a singer/songwriter by the name of holly throsby!!! she was very sweet and a very very talented girl....so check her stuff out!! she really is great!!!

and funley enough i went and picked up a feret for my nephews birthday on the way home to newcastle and i tell ya what...those things are cute but boy do they bite!!!! i was so afriad of it the whole way home... scatting around the cage...looking at me....i think by the time we got home we were some what friends....he was sniffing my hand and i fed him a mc donalds chip and we seemed to get along....he he....cutey!!

then i got home and went out with my girl friends....and had a ball!!  i love my girlfriends!! they are awesome!!! i went with my friend who is a nurse and all of her doctor friends were there and playing in a rock band....it was quite interesting seeing doc up on the stage rocking out!!! you know!?....

anyways....im off to another girls night tonight at my friends house...and i cant wait!!! girls rock!!! he he...

hey gorgeous people!!!

i am just back in newie chilling...ive been at the wineries for the weekend songwriting with my friend Morgan Evans...we got some great songs written!!! it was so beautiful too...if you didnt feel inspired you just go for a walk out into the beautiful landscape of vines and mountains and green pastures....it was very inspiring....

i went out to see a friend of mine play last night at her album launch/b'day party @ the del....her name is marissa saroca and she is an awesome singer!!!! loved it!!! i wish her all the best with the album!! its called cheaper than therapy!!

there really is a whole scene in newcastle of underground music....just waiting to be discovered...its really cool....so much talent....and its not like the town isnt already known for its great music that has emerged.... silverchair, screaming jets, morgan evans, mark wells.....ME!!!!! he he......no but really.....good music town....i love it!!

ive really really been trying to work out everyday and eat right and get fitter....but gosh its hard sometimes!!!! its so hard to make yourself get to the gym let alone work out hard when you get there....and eating good..... my goodness.....maybe im just weak....but really....there is so much beatiful foods out there that just arnt healthy!!! he he....i went to marissa's b'day after party last night at her house and all of a sudden they start pulling out chips and chocolate biscuits and lollies and lots more....it was so hard!!!! dahm the person who made unhealthy food....i hate you!!!! he he....

its my brother Adam's 30th birthday this weekend and my eldest bro is coming down from sydney and we are having a big party with all the fam!!! dont know if you guys know i have three older brothers.....kinda explains me a little doesnt it.....he he.....but i love them all so much! and i cant wait till this weekends festivities!!.....good times....good times!!!

im also playing at the rodeo at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre this saturday night!!! so come along if your a novacastrian!!!! should be fun fun fun!!!

omg!!!! sex and the city movie comes out next week!!!!! aaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!! i have tickets that i bought weeks ago for the opening night!!!! and i cant wait!!! i have been waiting for this day for a very long time!!!......is that bad!?.....he he....

ok so i pretty much have fugured out how to use this new site im on its called eventful.com and from what im told your fans from all over the world can go onto your page ( eventful.com/catherinebritt ) and demand that you come to their town or city and play a show....i think that is just awesome!!!! so please go on there and start demanding so that i can come and play in your home towns soon!!! it really does work i believe and if you get enough demand and momentem you never know!!!.....so try it out!!!!

also, there are  two new videos up on youtube. one is of most of my songs that i sang on "aussies walk the line" the johnny cash tribute show and the other one is of my duet with kasey chambers that we did on the tour i went on with her when i was 16.....so check em out....this means that all archive stuff we wanted to out up is all on there and it will only be new videos and footage from now on....yay!!!

and for all you aussies!!! i am singing live tommorrow morning on kerry anne...so tune in and tell me how i go....its going to be just me and my guitar all alone....cant wait!!! 

i have been doing interviews all morning and havent really left the house...but im about to go and write on the central coast so i will soon find out if the day is as nice as it looks out my window!!! then i am off to good ol' sydney again to stay the night for kerry anne nice and early in the morning....

what a great day!!! i worked out with my mumma this morning...she rode a bike whilst i ran beside her....and then i spent sometime online...and then i read some of my book called "skellig" by david almond...very good... but scarey...and then i went to channel 10 in newcastle to record a spot for the news on sunday about the new single and then i got home and watched ready steady cook....which i won by the way!!!! he he...and then i went grocery shopping with my mummy and then just got home and now im writing to you!!!! he he.... a life in the day of CB....im sure very very boring for most!!! he he....

hey!!!

well i spent the day in sydney today and my mum came down with me cos it was my beautiful nephew dylans FIRST birthday!!! and what a great little party we had for him!!! he's such a cutie!!!

then me and my mum got all dressed up and went to see the Rouge Traders play @ Luna Park....it was alot of fun!!! they were really good and really nice people....so i enjoyed the show!

we are back home now and im pretty sleepy....might read a bit and then go to bed early!!! he he....

also....re: the fan club....i worked on it today with my brother for a few hours and it turns out its a little more difficult than we thought to set up....so please bear with us while we work it out...its a little tough cos my bro has two little babies and works very hard at his job so we will make it happen asap!!! cos trust me i cant wait!!! it will be nice to give away prizes and newsletters and fun stuff and exclusive stuff and VIP baby!!! he he....no seriousley though....i cant wait....so i hope you all join and become a member of "the club"...he he....

well i wrote a cool new song yesturday with two good friends of mine....Mark Wells & Morgan Evans....and i love it!!!!! its great!!!! im loving writing again all the time....i cant wait for you guys to hear the new stuff!!!

i have got a million emails about the fan club/newsletter thingy im starting and just so everybody knows i am on it!!!! it will take a week or so for me and my computer programer brother dahmz to set it up....but it is on its way!!!!! and im so excited!!!

i have also noticed that i have been getting a lot of myspace msg's since i mentioned people should write to me and i wanna say keep em coming!!! i promise i write back to them as soon as i can!!! thanks for saying hi!!!!

also.....my beloved stickman....you are ever so controversial....let me just tell you that first off i love ya and thanks for all the support!!! you are my number one rated forum blogger but i just want you to know that there will be no hank williams being dragged behind a train on this girls future projects....everything i do is forever influenced by the music if my childhood....yes...it comes and goes...cos i am influenced by all sorts of music (ref: blog on webiste "dont put my music in a box) but i will forever love and respect and try to make music like my heros hank and loretta and patsy and jimmy and so on....dont you worry!!!!

i think the next album might surprise some people....i just dunno yet....he he.....

anyways....i went shopping today with my bestie samantha and bought some new clothes....i have come to the conclusion that i am just a plain comfy kinda girl....i like  clothes that are plain and black and comfy....but hey, i guess thats just my style!!! he he....

im really excited about my Hexham show coming up in Newcastle cos its my first "Catherine Britt" show in my home town since i got back....and i cant wait!!!!

im dying to get out to every little city and town and pub and venue in Australia....but it just doesnt seem to be working out for me as fast as i would like....i have an idea....if you guys ever want me to come to your hometown and play just start a really big petition and get everybody in your town to sign it and get a venue to agree to bring me in to play and just pay for me and my band to get there and back and sleep somewhere and some money for the band guys and send it to me and i will come!!!....he he.....easier said than done hey!??? oh well....worth a try.....

well....its weds morning where i am at in the world.....and a beautiful day here in Newcastle Australia....

hope everybody is doing great today and are positive and happy!!!!

things are going great for me....im happy, humble, together and on the right track again.... i am really excited about music right now....ive been writing heaps and listening alot to great artists....in my cd player right now is tom petty and ryan adams on repeat!!! he he.....and i am inspired again....

i will be starting a fan club/newsletter/group/thingy in the next few days for all of my fans to keep in the loop on new music, info, updates, touring dates and so on....i wanna have my own little group of peeps and i want you guys to all be a part of it!!! i promise it will be worth joining and unlike most people....mine will be free.... i would be nothing without my fans and i want you guys to know that in the new world of music and internet and future it is all gonna be between me and you guys!!! im cutting out the middle men and getting closer to the fans baby!!!

Rob, Saturday was a great time for all of us.  Catherine did a sound check at midday on a beautiful sunny day in Newcastle (aren't they all??).  We then returned at about 4 for the singing and game.  Catherine invited her mum and I so it was a great family event.  During the Premier League halftime Catherine was interviewed on the bigscreen and they played the video for What I Did Last Night (now in the Top 5 by the way on CMC).  The Knights set us up in the Crusader Lounge with free food and drinks all afternoon and a spectacular view of the ground.  At 5:20 Catherine sang Little Wildflower and Swingin Door with her new Ernie Ball guitar and then followed with the anthem.  It must have worked because they played spectacularly in the first half to lead 12:0 at half time.  The second half was a Titanic struggle against the Titans but thanks to a Jarred Mullen field goal we hung on 13:12.  The Knights were at their best and if they can continue will be a real threat this year.

Meanwhile we were sharing dessert for 8 between the 3 of us - cakes, cheese, fruit!! - all beautiful.  After the game we talked to one of the Knights greats from the past, Tim Maddison, who went to the same school as Catherine - Whitebridge High. He still looks as fit as the day he retired.

Catherine and both of us can't thank the Knights enough for the opportunity to be part of the 2008 Crusade, and for looking after us so well!

i am very excited to tell you that i have just been confirmed to be singing at the Newcastle Knights Game this saturday!!!!! its gonna be a great game and you'll be glad to know that i did tip them in the paper this week! so i just know they are gonna win!!!! he he....i will also be singing the National Anthem too so come along!!!!\

also, a gig has been confirmed at Hexham Bowling Club!!! it will be me and my band and we will have special guest Troy Kemp opening the show so come on out!!!! its gonna be so great!!!

oh and by the way I LOVE NEWCASTLE!!!!!

ok so its officially been a LONG time since i last blogged and i apoligise for that!! i have not been in blog land...ha ha....but i have been on the road again with adam harvey...we finished up this part of the tour last weekend and it was awesome!!! we went to Canberra, wagga wagga and shellharbour....great crowds!!!

and other than that i have been spending alot of time with friends and family...it has been a wicked week for birthdays, just one after the other....it was fun, but by the time it was over i swear i had out on a few kgs!!! he he.....but i will work it off again...so happy birthday to all the peeps for last week...good times!!!

i have some time off from the road just for a few weeks i think....so i am going to try and write some songs and chill a little bit....its getting too cold for the beach but there is always great indoor stuff to do... like going to the movies, shopping with your friends, going out to lunch and dinner and so on....so yay!

i hope everybody's loving the new video??? im really proud of it and the message is getting alot of attention which is great!!! so let me know what you all think of the new vid....its going great on CMC so thanks for all the requests guys!!!!

anyways...i wont leave it as long to blog next time!!!

well...i just got back from an awesome weekend up the coast....we played in Taree, Inverell and Lismore.... too much fun!!! so thanks to all the fans that came out and had some fun with us!!! it seems the shows keep getting better and better....and i feel like people are hearing about them and more and more people are coming out!!! so thanks again!!! i read karens blog on my forum today and wanna say thanks for coming out and writing those nice things....its funny, cos the next night we added Drive-In-Movie back into the show and it didnt seem to quite work....because i miss singing that song too...but i guess there are only so many of the songs i can sing and i cant sing all my favourites....it sux!!! he he....but anyways, i took some of your comments and have used them to better the show already so thankyou for the feed back!!! hope to see you at another show soon!!!

well....looks like the new video hits CMC this weekend!!!! i hope im right in saying that....huh.....he he.....if its not this weekend it will be very soon....i cant wait for everybody to see it!!! rock on brotha!!

this week i am gonna try and write some songs....i feel inspired again....i wrote one today and i think its good....dunno....but its better than not writing one at all....so aim this week....number 1...write songs....

i have to take a trip to sydney to have a meeting and stuff but pretty much just chilling in the old newcastle till its tie to hit the road again....we are adding some more dates to the tour i beleive....so keep checking out the site for more dates soon....we are trying to get everywhere....

boy is it starting to feel cold outside....i dont like it too cold....but its getting there....good ol' winters on its way and no more beach and hanging outside....boo hoo....he he....instead...it will be snuggle time and movies and hot chocolate and putting on 10 pounds.....oh wait.....NNNOOOOOO!!!! he he....

im hopefully going to buy a new car this week so i can have a car in Australia for when im home....so wish me luck that i dont get some crappy bomb!! he he....i want a good car lord....grant me a good car!!!

im planning on also going to see tha knights play this weekend!!! im still going strong in the footy tips in the herald....on yeah....im gonna beat all the experts and win win win!!!! i swear!! (she says with a southern twang)....silly silly....
